Pattern Notes

This tutorial is going to teach you how to crochet the petal stitch in the round. Start with a multiple of 6 st, you will need 12 st to form a whole flower.

Stitches you will use

DTRCL … Double Triple Crochet Cluster

Lowest prices on the best yarn - guaranteed at knitpicks.com

ADTRCL …. (Cl + chain): ch 6, [yo 3 times, insert hk into 1st ch, (yo, pull through 2 lps) three times] twice (keep 3 lps on hk)

BDTRCL …. (just CL): [yo 3 times, insert hk into st, (pull through 2 lps) three times] three times (keep 3 lps on hk)

Round 1: ADTRCL in the first st, sk 5, BDTRCL, pull through six lps, *ch 1, make ADTRCL (this will be your horizontal petal!), make BDTRCL into same st as last BDTRCL made, sk 5, BDTRCL, yo, pull through all nine lps on hook, repeat from * to end, end with a slst into the center of the first two petals.

There are 2 different options. You can make A if you want to continue with more than just one round of flowers:

A … Round 2:  ADTRCL into the same st as joining, work BDTRCL into the next flower center, yo, pull through all six lps on hk, *ch 1, make ADTRCL, make BDTRCL in same flower center as last BDTRCL, make BDTRCL into next flower center, yo, pull through all nine lps on the hk, repeat from *to last

Or you can make B if you would like to only have one round of flowers and want to omit the horizontal petal on the second round!

B … Round 2: ADTRCL into the same st as joining, work BDTRCL into the next flower center, yo, pull through all six lps on hk, *ch 6, make BDTRCL in same flower center as last BDTRCL, make BDTRCL into next flower center, yo, pull through all 7 lps on the hk, repeat from * to end, end the round with a ch 6 and a slst to the top of the first two petals.

If you enjoy learning new stitches, there are a few really helpful crochet books that are worth looking into:

5oo Crochet Stitches:

This is my favorite crochet stitch book. I actually use it all the time, especially when I’m coming up with new projects.

The Crochet Stitch Bible

If you think you might not quite need 500 stitches 🙂 , this book comes with over 200 and has really helpful pictures.

200 Crochet Flowers, Embellishments & Trims

I like this crochet book because it’s so colorful and really makes you want to pull out your hook immediately. The section on borders is my favorite. Another bonus is that this book comes free if you already have kindle unlimited.

  1. Love this! It’s so pretty! I’m trying to figure out if it’s a multiple of 6 or of 12 since you need 12 to complete the flower. Thanks so much.

  2. In your video, you never show how to complete the 2nd row. When you broke to the end, you went back to how to finish the first row.
