Crochet Giraffe Free Pattern

amigurumi giraffeThis free crochet Giraffe pattern has brought me so much joy over the last two years, that I finally had to write it out and share it here. After my initial scarf, amigurumis made me fall in love with crochet (read more about my crochet story here!) and these little yarn guys still hold a very special place in my heart. There is no chance of a bad mood when you finish making this crochet Giraffe!

This pattern is free on the site, the printable PDF version to own is available in my Etsy shop for $2.50

Cotton yarn is my first choice for the Crochet Giraffe Pattern since I made a lot of these for little ones. They have held up tugging, drooling and the occasional nibble quite well and are washed just like you would any cotton item. I do recommend putting it inside a pillow cover to wash if you use black safety eyes!

Materials needed to make the crochet giraffe

I like to use Bernat Handicrafter DeLux Cotton Yarn in Cloves and Gold (= Orange in the pattern)

and Sugar n’ cream cotton yarn in White and Hot Pink

Scrap piece of black yarn for the nose

hook size – see Gauge. I like to use a 4.00mm US size G hook (Check out this Hook set if you are looking for beautiful, ergonomic Hooks! Also, check out this post for a comprehensive hook review!

Darning needle

9mm solid black safety eyes like these

Polyfill for stuffing

Size of the Crochet Giraffe

When you use worsted weight cotton yarn your finished Giraffe will stand around 16 Inches.

Gauge

The size hook will be determined by how tight your stitches are. Make a mr, sc 10 in ring, join, ch 1, sc around and make three more rounds. Now stuff your “tube” with polyfill stuffing. If any of the stuffing peeks out through your stitches, you should choose a smaller hook!
