Crochet Duck Part II

Notes on Crochet Design

Sometimes I have a very clear image of what it is I want to design in my head and then I go for it and the finished project comes out exactly like I imagined it would. In the case of the duck it certainly did NOT happen that way. When I started shaping the head he seemed to take on a personality of his own and I had no choice, but to go along and see who would come through. Well, let me introduce him.

Crochet Duck

Crochet rubber ducky

My students have given me a Elephant/Rainbow/Duck design challenge and while I have enjoyed making the three requests, the hardest part for me was to design something easy. I did manage to come up with a very cute and super simple little duck that just so happens to be perfect for an Easter nest. After a lot of trial and error and some major balance issues I want to share the free ducky crochet pattern with you.

Penguins!

I love teaching middle schoolers crochet. They are still cute but already pretty capable AND they keep me busy with pattern requests. Then I get to invent new things and share them here too, so everybody wins 🙂

My new project was probably my favorite (but I think that every week). The girls wanted a penguin and I can share a little bit about how I start to make up a new pattern for an amigurumi animal or an applique.

Recycle your coffee cans!

Today I want to share with you  a chance for recycling!

Crafty use for empty coffee cans

I have a confession to make. While I love purging and one day dream of living almost possession less in one of those sweet, little tiny houses, I am a hoarder at the same time. I hoard craft things, or things that, in my mind, just need to be made into something else. I always feel like it would be a sin to throw them out. If you have ever seen the show hoarders, this is step one of going down to crazy town, but I have finally done it. I have found a use for my full box of empty coffee cans! (Yay!)

Pretty little scrubbies

Free crochet pattern for a soap saver and matching scrubbies

I made up this pattern when I needed a simple but homemade gift for my boss. She is a lovely person and I really wanted t0 go overboard and make her a huge throw or a pouf or something but that might have come off as a little weird… So soap saver and scrubbies seemed like a more appropriate option 🙂

Crochet Cupcakes

2013-10-24 10.05.06

I literally made hundreds of these little cupcakes last year! I sold them at a café and people special ordered them by the dozen. They are so much fun to make and I always love a project you can finish in an hour. Don’t get me wrong, I have several Afghans waiting for me in my “unfinished drawer” and it is extremely rewarding when you complete a long time project, but there is nothing like filling up a box of these sweet things within a few days. They are a lot of fun to make, but ultimately the time and effort you put in is more like a labor of love than anything you could support your family with 😉

I think I will make a bunch for my family this Christmas, though because they make sweet ornaments and doesn’t a crochet filled Christmas tree sound super?
