Review the tutorial on how to make easy crochet cables. I chose Lion Brand’s Heartland yarn because I love the heather effect but I have made the same hat in Lion Brand’s wool ease as well with good results. Make a gauge swatch. In case you are new to crocheting cables, I really recommend following the swatch instruction in the tutorial! This way you will get some practice and find out if you need to adjust your hook size to achieve flawless cables.

The crown of the hat is not decreased all the way as I like the knit look where hats are cinched at the top. This makes it easy to adapt the pattern to a higher or lower stitch count.

The simple crochet cable beanie pattern is made from brim to crown. You’ll start with a single crochet ribbed brim. For a complete tutorial on how to crochet a ribbed brim, follow this link!
