Straight crochet edge tutorial

crochet hack

When I first started to crochet regularly I made Afghans. Simple double crochet Afghans. I was excited about the colors, I could tell I was improving my stitch quality over time but one thing always left me puzzled. My edges were messy! They were wobbly or holey and not appealing at all. The same happened with my scarves and all other double crochet (even half double crochet) projects. After a lot of trial and error and some research I found Tara Murray’s Crochet Hack. (If you don’t know her, you need to look at her amazing patterns here!) This is a game changer! The simple trick cleans up your edges and even make it easier for you to crochet a border around double crochet projects. Below is the straight crochet edge tutorial. Use this tutorial to learn the fake double crochet decrease stitch and love your edges.

Crochet Super Scarf:  free pattern

I have always loved long, over sized scarves so this ‘wear a blanket around your neck’ trend is making me very happy. Unfortunately I live in Florida so when I set out to make my own crochet super scarf pattern I knew I had to cut down on the bulk a little and make it somewhat lacy. I came up with a simple shell stitch scarf pattern that will let me and others from a warmer climate, participate in this trend but not get heat stroke in December 🙂

Free Fall Afghan Pattern

Fall Crochet Afghan

I am so excited to introduce you to my free Fall Afghan crochet pattern. This  Afghan pattern is a wonderful addition to your autumn must make crocheting collection. I have designed it for a fall wedding and used a beautiful assortment of Sport weight yarn from Knitpicks.com in warm, leafy tones. I love how it came out.

The stitch used is a variation of the waffle stitch and I was first introduced to it while crocheting a Christening gown. I think the stitch makes for a really nice texture and drape for a lighter throw.
